We've seen this monument for years from Talbot St. below but never searched it out before. Worth a quick look if you have the time. Lots of parking. A train caboose next to the monument has been turned into a small used bookstore, but it is only open on the weekends. Situated on a road with houses across the street.
Worth stopping by and kids can play for sometime. Great view. Free parking. And historic.
It's worth a quick stop along the way. The elevated parkway is close by for a short stroll with some great views. Best of all, it's free.
This is my 3rd visit in Saint Thomas and we keep coming back to visit Jumbo. Its really such a joy not only for little kids but also adults.
The statue is outside which can be visited at any time. It worth the stop to see it. There is a bookstore in the rail car right next to it.
Good Old Jumbo. Beautiful Statue to his honour. Little park on top of the hill, located on the west side of St. Thomas. The kids will like seeing him and having their photo taken with him! They says his height was ten feet seven inches and what made him famous. Was the fact , that he was the first African Elephant to be displayed to the North American public in the late nineteen hundreds. Poor Jumbo was killed by another train, while he was being unloaded across the tracks. September 15th 1885. Definitely worth a stop if you are ever in the area.👍👍
Kids can hop up for a picture, super easy to find and within walking distance of the elevated park if you want to visit both.
At the same location there is a train car with a pottery shop inside. Limited hours, would be worth a look!
Memorial for the famous elephant as part of the circus. The memorial is right off Talbot Hill St. with plenty of parking and easy access.
